Fall protection anchors should be inspected regularly, and industry guidance under ANSI/IWCA I-14.1, the window cleaning safety standard, along with the anchor manufacturer's own instructions, points to inspection at least once a year. Rope descent system anchorages and the 10-year rule

A qualified inspector will identify what type of system you have, and any structural questions are reviewed with a licensed structural engineer. General fall protection equipment standards under ANSI Z359 also guide how components are evaluated and maintained.

What happens during a professional inspection

A thorough annual roof anchor inspection covers far more than a quick look. On an Anchorage roof, expect the technician to:

  1. Locate and account for every anchor, davit base, and tie-back on the roof, comparing them against existing documentation.
  2. Check each anchor for corrosion, cracking, deformation, and loose or missing fasteners.
  3. Inspect the waterproofing and flashing around each penetration for freeze-thaw cracking and water intrusion.
  4. Test connections for movement and confirm anchors sit in their designed position.
