Roof Anchor Inspection for Honolulu Condo Towers, Hotels, and Offices
Honolulu has one of the densest high-rise skylines in the United States. What Hawaii Requires From Building Owners
Hawaii runs its own workplace safety program, HIOSH, which adopts the federal OSHA general industry standards. For anchorages used with rope descent systems, the governing rule is OSHA 29 CFR 1910.27(b)(1). In plain terms, it requires the building owner to:
- Identify, test, certify, and maintain each anchorage so it can support at least 5,000 pounds in any direction for each worker attached.
- Have each anchorage inspected at least once a year by a qualified person.
- Have each anchorage certified by a qualified person as necessary, and at least every 10 years.
- Give the window washing or facade contractor that information in writing before anyone ties off.
Fall arrest and fall restraint anchors that are never used for rope descent follow the manufacturer's instructions and the applicable ANSI standards instead of the fixed federal 10 year cycle. How a Honolulu Project Runs
